Getting Started

Hello to the world of blogging.  As I sit here, laid up from an ACL repair, I decided that maybe I should attempt to make myself more known for what I love to do!

I am a pediatric Occupational Therapist. I have been working with peds for 12 years and it's my passion to work with families and children to find the best possible solutions for some not so easy issues.  I have worked in EI and home health. I have also worked within the school setting, and now work in an outpatient clinic both privately and for Memorial Health Systems, in Springfield, IL.

I have paired myself with a great Developmental Optometrist in town, Dr. Tonya Bourn,  and am working to build my caseload around those who may be struggling learners, have a learning disability, and/or visual processing deficits.  I also enjoy working with those children who have sensory processing concerns.  Each child has their own unique way of learning and acquiring skills, and that is why, each case is so individualized, as there are no 2 children alike in this world today.

Areas of expertise include training in Handwriting Without Tears, NeuroNet, Therapeutic Listening, Astronaut Training, Primitive Reflex Integration, as well as various sensory modulation/regulation courses.  My hands on training with Dr. Bourn, continue to deepen my ever growing curiosity of vision and learning.

With this blog, it is my hope that I continue to educate those around me with ideas, activities and suggestions for home use; but also to increase my exposure to you, the reader, on what I am passionate about and how I might be able to assist you.

Thank you for taking the time to find me and I welcome you to keep following me...as there is more to come!!!  Til the next time....
Melissa
